Job Description

Each morning starts with a team meeting. On Monday and Friday, it is a fun company-wide meeting. On Tuesday and Thursday, you and your Program Manager will work together to lead your own team meetings focused on developing your people and your priorities. You’ll then have virtual 1:1 meetings with 2 clients at about 1 hour a piece, centered around developing their employability skills. In the afternoon, you will oversee or lead a game-based workshop. In between that, you might find yourself doing the following:

  • Supporting your team as they develop ideas, troubleshoot issues with clients, and build their skills.

  • Supporting the Program Manager with their daily responsibilities and filling in when the Program Manager is absent.

  • Planning, creating, and leading workshops and group activities.

  • Training and mentoring new Employment Counselors

  • Acting as a project manager overseeing and directing projects instrumental to Blue Heron’s success.

  • Encouraging and modeling a collaborative environment

  • A sprinkle of admin work and having fun!

Who We're Looking For

We have a highly collaborative environment with managers interacting with each other, their team, and Employment Counselors across the company everyday. We are looking for someone with excellent people skills and conscientious work style who gets excited by our vision and aspires to be a manager.

As an Assistant Program Manager, you will focus on a number of things but the core of your job will be to use your set of talents and skills to work with the Program Manager in obtaining “strongly agrees,” from your team to these 12 questions:

  • Do you know what is expected of you at work?

  • Do you have the materials and equipment to do your work right?

  • At work, do you have the opportunity to do what you do best every day?

  • In the last seven days, have you received recognition or praise for doing good work?

  • Does your supervisor, or someone at work, seem to care about you as a person?

  • Is there someone at work who encourages your development?

  • At work, do your opinions seem to count?

  • Does the mission/purpose of your company make you feel your job is important?

  • Are your associates (fellow employees) committed to doing quality work?

  • Do you have a best friend at work?

  • In the last six months, has someone at work talked to you about your progress?

  • In the last year, have you had opportunities to learn and grow

*These questions are pulled from Gallup's research presented in “First Break all The Rules.”

We are looking for someone who looks at this list and sees and understands it’s value. Someone who gets excited about the possibility of supporting a great manager and realizing the inherent value linked to each of these questions to make that happen.
